The police are investigating the theft of a boat and an outboard engine belonging to the Toshao of Chinese Landing, in the North West District.
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) in a statement issued yesterday stated that the boat and the 200HP Yamaha engine, valued at a total of $4.5 million, belong to Toshao Orin Fernandes.
The theft occurred sometime between 6 pm on Sunday and 5 am on Monday at Chinese Landing, where Fernandes had secured his boat with a rope at the back of his home, about 100 feet away in a creek.
However, on Monday, Fernandes made checks and observed that his boat and engine were missing.
The GPF stated that the man immediately made checks in and around Chinese Landing and he was informed by others of the name of the accused who allegedly cut the rope used to secure the boat and had been seen heading towards the Waini River with the vessel.
The matter was reported to the Acquero Police Station and the police are engaged in a search to locate the suspect and the missing items.
