Mangar smashes first ton as Babulall and Son T10 softball tournament bowls off

The Babulall and Son T10 softball tournament bowled off Sunday in Essequibo with Brian Mangar smashing the first century of the competition.

In the Open Category, Mangar’s unbeaten ton ensured Queenstown/Ariel XI a comfortable 132-run win over Essequibo Eagles. Mangar’s unit won the toss and elected to bat  piling up 181 for four in their 10 overs. They then dismissed Crown XI for 49 in seven overs.

Mangar cracked 11 sixes and two fours on his way to 105 not out. He received support from Jonathan Fernandes who made 28, decorated with two sixes and a four.

Fernandes returned to take 3-6 from his two overs while Deon Wallace and Hamnauth Deochan picked up two wickets each for one and nine runs respectively.

In the second match, United Brothers defeated Health Warriors by 39 runs.

United Brothers posted 99 for one after winning the toss. They were indebted to Jintendra Imirt who struck two sixes and two fours in 38 not out and Kumar Dass who carved four boundaries in 36 not out. The pair shared an unbroken 74-run stand. Rajeve Singh took 1-9 for Health Warriors.

In the chase, Gopaul Dean made scoring difficult as he bagged 3-12 while Devendra Gobin returned 2-6. Sunil Singh top scored with 12 and Daniel Dass made 10.

Meanwhile, Adventure Cricket Club brushed aside Cullen by 111 runs. Adventure piled up 187 for three with Javid Azeez hitting 92 not out, decorated by nine sixes and three fours. Azeez shared an unfinished fourth-wicket partnership of 153 with Rahul Rooplall who hit five sixes and two fours during his unbeaten 52. Extras accounted for 30.

In reply, Cullen were bowled out for 76 in 9.3 overs with 25 extras. Devindra Lall top scored with 18 while Shivo Seurattan made 12. G. Sankar, S. Dyal, Govinda Sharma and S. Rajmangal took one wicket each.

The final match of the opening fixture saw Venom beating Crown XI by 109 runs. Devindra Mohan hit eight sixes as he raced to 79. He was supported by Shaulz Grovesnor who struck 37, laced with three sixes and three fours. Venom skipper, Romario Mohabir chipped in with 24.

In the chase, Calvin Walcott bagged 4-13 while Mohan capped off a solid all-round performance with 4-14.

In the lone T20 Over-40 match, Invaders Masters defeated Sunrisers Masters by eight wickets. Sunrisers won the toss and took first strike where they managed 107 all out in 19.4 overs. However, Patrick Rooplall raced to a 32-ball 72 to see Invaders reaching 108 for two with three balls to spare.
