A Corentyne man will now have to face a murder charge after the man he is accused of wounding succumbed on Sunday at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Dead is Vishnu Dalchan, 53, a labourer of Follow Up, Albion Back Lands.
According to information gathered, Dalchan was allegedly attacked by his workmate, Kumar Ruchieram, also known as ‘Gangster’, 19, a labourer of Follow Up, Corentyne, on April 5.
Another workmate, Rudolph Ramdeen, also known as ‘Rudy’, 52, a labourer of New Forest East Canje Berbice, had told investigators that he had received a call that the accused had injured Dalchan and another after a misunderstanding. Ramdeen along with others then went to the area where Dalchan was discovered in an unconscious state.
He was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital and was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he eventually succumbed. Stabroek News was told that the man sustained serious wounds to his head, chest, and left shoulder.
The suspect, Ruchieram, was charged with two counts of attempted murder following the incident.
He is accused of attempting to murder Dalchan and another workmate, Jaikishun Mohabir, 27, of New Forest, East Canje Berbice. He had appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Renita Singh where he was granted $75,000 bail on each count.
Commander of Region Six, Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan yesterday confirmed that the man has since been rearrested.
He is expected to be charged with murder sometime soon.
