Digicel Guyana on Monday announced the donation of $2,000,000 to the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) as relief support for the island chain of St. Vincent & the Grenadines.
The island which was rocked by explosions from Le Soufriere volcano has seen thousands of people evacuated from homes in the red zone and housed in shelters. These eruptions have affected the entire island and the situation continues to be difficult for residents. Digicel in a press release said it is committed to working with the Government of Guyana on national and regional emergencies and commends the CDC for their management of the relief efforts.
The release stated that Digicel Group has already shown its commitment to helping the St Vincentians rebuild by donating US$500,000 worth of much-needed items to the government of St Vincent & the Grenadines last week.
