(Trinidad Guardian) Someone strangled Utilda Joseph at her Siparia home, depriving her of the opportunity of celebrating what would have been her 97th birthday in May.

This was revealed following an autopsy by forensic pathologist Dr Eslyn McDonald-Burris on Tuesday, which revealed that the 96-year-old grandmother died from manual strangulation.

Joseph, of Hillview Lane, Quarry Village, Siparia, was last seen alive at her home around 1 pm on April 16 by her neighbour Dianne Paul.

Around 2.30 pm on April 17, Paul went to check on her but got no response. When she entered the home, she found Joseph lying on the bed clad in a white nightgown with bloodstains on the side of her mouth. Her hands had been tied up with a piece of cloth.

No one has yet been arrested for her murder.
