A man was yesterday asked to post a total of $80,000 bail for his release after being faced with multiple charges, including assaulting a policeman who was serving a summons to him for court.

Herman Liverpool, 38, of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara, made his appearance at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, where the charges were read to him.

They stemmed from his actions while being served with a summons to attend court for traffic charges. The Guyana Police Force shared a recording of the confrontation.

Liverpool pleaded not guilty to assault causing bodily harm, for which he was granted $50,000 bail.

He also pleaded not guilty to disorderly behaviour and abusive language charges and was placed on $10,000 bail each.

Liverpool also pleaded not guilty to overtaking a moving vehicle on the double yellow lines and failing to stop when directed by a police constable, for which he was granted $5,000 bail on each charge.

The matters were adjourned until July 26, 2021.
