The Cummings Electrical Company Ltd and the Trophy Stall sponsored Inter-Ministries/Government Agencies Inaugural Female Softball Cricket Championship, is slated to commence today at the Durban Park tarmac, Homestretch Avenue from 10am.
This was disclosed by an official release from James Lewis and his Georgetown Officer Assistants (GOA) group, who are at the helm of the tournament performing coordinating duties. According to the correspondence, “The organizers would like to specifically thank all the sponsors and the permanent secretaries for their kindness. Female teams can still enter the tournament.”
The tournament which will be contested utilizing a 7-a-side three over per innings format, has received the green-light from the National Covid-19 Task Force.
According to the approval letter from the government entity, “I hereby acknowledge receipt of your request dates April 13th 2021. I am to inform you that the Minister of Health has granted conditional approval to host a female 7-a-side Cricket Competition on Saturday 1st May 2021 at the Durban Park Tarmac, Georgetown. This approval is subjected to any further publication of the Covid-19 Official Gazette.”
The letter which is signed by Director of the Task Force Colonel Nazrul Hussain further said, “Be guided that spectators and alcoholic drink bars will not be permitted. This approval does not serve as a music and dance permit. Please be informed that your association is expected to confirm with all other existing Covid-19 Emergency Measures (no.16) Number 75 of 2021 dated March 31st 2021.”
Other sponsors of the competition are West Indian Sports Complex and R&T Taxi Service.
