A Corentyne man is now hospitalised and his wife was injured after they were attacked and robbed by two armed bandits after midnight yesterday at their home in Number 69 Village, Corentyne.
According to information gathered, two bandits armed with cutlasses invaded the house of Amarnauth Ragunauth also known as `Boyo’ and Samantha Singh of Number 69 Village and demanded cash and valuables.
The police yesterday said that it was reported to them that the couple was awakened by a noise after which they noticed two men wearing black face masks and armed with cutlasses in their bedroom.
“The men demanded cash and jewellery and they subsequently dealt him and his wife several lashes about their bodies with the cutlasses causing them to receive injuries”, a report from the Guyana Police Force said yesterday.
The woman handed over the items which were hidden inside the bedroom after which the bandits escaped.
The bandits fled with one gold chain, one gold band and two gold finger rings valued at $1.5M along with one silver chain, one silver band and one silver ring valued at $300,000.
The couple was taken to the Skeldon Hospital where the man has since been admitted in a stable condition while the woman was treated for her injuries.
Police have launched an investigation.
