Sustainable Environment Solutions (SES) Incorporated was launched in Guyana on Tuesday and has won a contract to manage ExxonMobil’s hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
The company is a joint venture partnership among Gaico Construction and General Services Inc, Guyana Shore Base Inc, and the Corena Group, an international waste management company from Finland.
According to a Gaico statement, SES brings strong local content in keeping with the government’s initiative to have more local involvement in the oil & gas businesses, and achieving the highest international waste management standards. It was disclosed that the SES facility has been designed to manage a wide range of wastes.
Komal Singh will serve as the Company’s chairman.
“A unique service of this facility is its ability to process drill cuttings, recovering large amounts of base oil which can then be recycled into various mud plants around the country. The utilization of state-of-the-art furnaces minimizes harmful emissions into the atmosphere, while a waste water treatment plant has been designed to manage all fluids from bilge waters to tank cleaning effluent. The integration of these processes will make this environmentally friendly facility state-of-the-art, and keep Guyana beautiful and green,” Gaico stated while noting that they are fully committed to ensuring maximum local content in its pursuit of minimising carbon footprint and caring for the environment.
The company was awarded a 10-year contract with ExxonMobil to manage hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
During the official launching, Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance Dr. Ashni Singh said that local business people and companies must actively seek opportunities to penetrate and benefit from the oil & gas value chain.
“I think it’s extremely commendable that Guyanese companies spotted an opportunity to innovate, to enter a space where Guyanese companies had hitherto not entered, identified that there were technologies and skills that they did not have, seek out a credible international partner with a track record like Corena, engaged them, concluded a joint venture in the manner that you did, tendered, competed presumably with a significant number of other competitors, I would imagine, compete for business with ExxonMobil, and win a ten-year contract with ExxonMobil to do this particular function. I think this is something for which you should all be commended and applauded,” the Department of Public Information (DPI) quoted Singh as saying.
He encouraged persons to follow the path of the collaborating partners and assured that the government will continue to facilitate significant growth and investment by improving the ease of doing business, especially in the oil & gas sector.
