Investigations are ongoing into a fire of unknown origin which destroyed a Lusignan, East Coast Demerara (ECD) house on Wednesday night.
Reports are that the fire started around 20.30hrs at Lots 50-52 Lusignan Rail-way Embankment, ECD.
The house is owned by Rukhmin Ramdular of Area H, Lusignan, ECD.
According to a police press statement, investigation revealed that the property was abandoned by the owner and was later occupied by four Venezuelans.
The police said residents of the area claimed that they heard a loud explosion coming from the building.
Shortly after, residents noted that they saw fire and smoke coming from the said building.
The Guyana Fire Service (GFS) was alerted and the fire was extinguished. The building was destroyed.
Both the GFS and the police are investigating the incident. Statements are yet to be obtained.
