A remanded prisoner is currently a patient at a city hospital after he was reportedly chopped to his head by two of his fellow inmates on Wednesday night at the Lusignan Prison.
Injured is Allan Basdeo, who is a remanded prisoner charged with murder.
The police yesterday confirmed the attack, which occurred around 11.15 pm.
The suspects were identified by the aliases ‘Russian’ and ‘Sonic’.
The police said enquiries disclosed that Basdeo fell asleep in Holding Bay 2 and was awakened by a loud noise.
Upon opening his eyes, he saw the suspects, who were masked and armed with improvised weapons. They reportedly dealt him two chops to his head.
An alarm was raised and Basdeo was taken to the prison infirmary for medical attention.
He was later escorted to the George-town Public Hospital, where he was admitted. His condition is listed as stable.
