A total of 50 persons were arrested on Friday for various traffic offences.
According to the Guyana Police Force, the arrests were made after ranks attached to Region 3 (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) carried out an operation “Safe Roads” exercise.
The most arrests were made for tinted vehicle glass. A total of 28 persons were arrested for this offence.
Among the other offences for which persons were arrested were breach of condition of road service licence, operating motor vehicle for a purpose other than it was licensed for, unlicensed driver, failure to wear seatbelt, failure to conform to sign, and failure to wear safety helmet.
Operation “Safe Roads” was launched by the police in December 2019 in an effort to address various traffic issues, including increasing road accidents.
