When discussions between the Government of Guyana and Virgin Atlantic resume, negotiations will centre on how both parties can benefit from the airline operating out of Guyana, Minister of Public Works Juan Edghill said.
Edghill, who has responsibility for the aviation sector, has been in talks with the airline since October 2020.
According to Edghill, he is scheduled to meet soon with Virgin’s Chief Executive Officer Shai Weiss via Zoom. During discussions, Edghill will have to outline what support can be given by government to Virgin’s operations here, while Weiss will outline how Guyana will be able to benefit.
Should Virgin Atlantic begin servicing the route, it will be the only airline to offer a direct connection from Guyana to Europe.
Then Minister of Public Infrastructure David Patterson in 2019 had announced that the airline was aiming to serve the Guyanese market.
Virgin Atlantic operates flights to several Caribbean destinations, including Barbados and Jamaica.
