Venom marched into the semi-finals of the Babulall and Sons T10 softball tournament after a resounding 56-run win over Essequibo Eagles yesterday.
While most of the grounds on the Essequibo Coast were affected by rain the softball competition was relocated to Sand Pit where Venom won the toss and elected to bat.
Venom posted 148 for four and kept Eagles caged at 91 for nine when their 10-over quota ended.
Venom was led by a belligerent innings from David Williams, who hammered six fours and two sixes before a brilliant catch on the long on boundary by Marvin Pearson, sent the left-hander back to the shed.
Schultz Grovesnor struck three sixes and a four on his way to a quickfire 26 while Romario Mohabir and Devindra Mohan made 24 and 22 respectively.
Robindra Doodnauth was the pick of the Eagles bowling attack taking 3-14 from his two overs while Shazam Ally and Shawn Abrahim chipped in with a wicket each.
Eagles were never in in the picture as Calvin Walcott and Sachin Persaud continued their fine form with the ball by picking up three wickets each. Deoram Seeram also picked up three wickets.
Meanwhile, the second quarter final contest saw a bit of controversy after Travis Drakes played without boots, which, according to the regulations, are required.
Nevertheless, Golden Fleece piled on 222 without loss with Patrick Rooplall pounding 12 sixes and seven fours on his way to 114 not out. On the other end, Drakes struck 14 sixes and two fours during his unbeaten 110.
Crown XI were then limited to 81 for six with Shannon Jagmohan (17) and Devindra Beemsingh (11) the only batsmen to reach double figures.
