Ex cop for trial over killing of dredge owner

A jury was empaneled yesterday morning to hear the trial of former police sergeant Shawn Sandy, who is accused of the 2016 unlawful killing of his employer, dredge owner Feroze Khan.

Sandy was arraigned on a charge of manslaughter, for what the police said was an accidental shooting.

The charge states that on March 24th, he unlawfully killed Khan at Buoy Hole, Mazaruni.

He has pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Justice Navindra Singh is presiding over the trial at the High Court at Suddie, Essequibo.

Sandy is being represented by attorney George Thomas.

The state’s case meanwhile, is being led by Prosecutor Tiffini Lyken.
