The Essequibo Cricket Board (ECB) has taken a decision to look into the recent elections of the Pomeroon Cricket Committee.
This was disclosed by acting president of the ECB, Alvin Johnson during an interview with this publication yesterday.
“We have heard, we have not received anything official from the unofficial group that has been formed,” said Johnson.
“The secretary has forwarded a document to Mr. Aotto Christiani on what happened. It was something more or less brief, not in detail. She heard a meeting was held, and elections were held and these persons were elected and I told her to find out if anyone from the standing committee was there and involved,” Johnson stated.
The former Guyana Cricket Board vice-president, said that the ECB will take steps to resolve the issue after perusing the constitution.
“What we plan to do is to get a copy of the constitution because it must state what steps you need to take. So once that constitution comes to us, we will read and interpret it to see the way forward and if it was in keeping with the procedure set out and if it’s not we are going down there,” Johnson explained.
The 64-year-old former headmaster said that himself, Christiani, Andy Ramnarine, Tamika Johnson and any other member of the ECB will be tsaked with resolving the issue.
“We recognize the board that was there. We have not received anything about this fly by night one. We have to get the facts of the new committee.
“I heard Pomeroon never had elections in five or six years but that never came to the fore.
“Ever so often I don’t think people are educated with their constitutions. In East Bank Essequibo, we had a constitutional reform and every club has a constitution and we went through everything so sometimes persons have documents and put it in a file, they need to sensitize the clubs.
“Also we have a lot of teams but no club structure. Each zone is important to the ECB and once there is a situation affecting the committee directly or indirectly it will affect the structure of the board so we would intervene once it is brought to our attention and seek to resolve it without any bias.”
