Minister within the Ministry of Public Works, Deodat Indar, has promised residents of Belle West, West Bank Demerara that two of their streets—some 394 meters of the road will be rehabilitated within a month’s time.
This is according to a press release from the Ministry which said that Indar visited the village yesterday and met residents who raised a number of other concerns pertaining to electricity, drainage, water quality and pressure, crime, noise nuisance and land titling.
According to the release, the minister was told that some 75 farmers have been attempting to uplift land titles, for some time now, in Belle East which he said he will communicate to Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha for intervention.
Likewise, the release said that Indar will also inform the subject ministry regarding the water issues, they said they are encountering; while adding that he will relate to his colleagues in government the community’s need for a playground.
Villagers in attendance the release said, endorsed the need for a recreational facility as “they stressed that their children are turning to illicit activities, as a result of the lack of a recreational facility in the area.”
Indar is said to have also met with a senior rank of the Police Force in Region 3, with whom the issue of noise nuisance caused by bikers in the area was discussed.
According to the press release, residents had complained about bikers patrolling the area with their loud motorcycles, causing disturbance to school children during their online home classes.
The minister, according to the release, said that work will be done in all the Local Democratic Areas in Region Three and development will also take place across the country.
Present at yesterday’s outreach were Regional Chairman, Sheik Ayube, Canals Polder Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDC) Chairman, Yogieraj Dass and other members of the NDC.
