Mandy Mangru was one of the newest additions to the West Indies women’s  training camp currently ongoing in Antigua, a call up which she describes as her biggest achievement yet.

“It’s my biggest achievement, it’s what I’ve been waiting for, it’s my dream come through, I’m really looking forward to giving my all in this camp,” the East Coast Demerara native told Stabroek Sport.

While the new environment has brought her one step closer to fulfilling her passion of playing for West Indies, it has not all been smooth sailing, particularly over the last year with the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Mangru, the pandemic did not stop her from training but it did limit her.

“I’ve had a couple of training sessions prior to the training camp but apart from that not much has been done,” she said.

So far, the all-rounder, who bowls off-break, revealed that the camp has been going great so far while detailing her plans for the stint.

“I’m looking to improve in all departments of the game,” she says.

“I’ve come like a sponge to absorb everything that I possibly can to better myself. Whether it’s mentally, physically or technically,” she added.

Head Coach, Courtney Walsh has already expressed excitement at working with her. According to Walsh, he has seen videos of her prior to the camp and believes there is natural talent there.

Mangru joins four other Guyanese in the camp including the experienced Shemaine Campbelle and the up-and-coming quartet of Shabika Gajnabi, Shenetta Grimmond, Cherry-Ann Fraser and Kaysia Schultz.
