Kester Lewis, the accused in the killing of David Barclay, who succumbed after being dragged by a car on D’Urban Street, Georgetown last December, was yesterday committed to stand trial at the High Court.

Lewis, 28, of Lot 455 4th Street, Herstelling, East Bank Demerara, was committed to stand trial at the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry that was conducted by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

According to the police, Barclay, 29, of Triumph, East Coast Demerara was dragged into several parked vehicles along D’Urban Street, Lodge, after a row with the driver.

The police stated that Barclay approached Lewis to have a tyre on his vehicle repaired. However, an argument ensued over payment and Lewis reportedly took out a knife and slashed a tyre on Barclay’s car.

The police further shared that Lewis subsequently jumped into a vehicle and started to drive away. However, Barclay jumped onto the front driver side door in an attempt to apprehend him. As a result, Lewis lost control of the car and crashed into several parked vehicles.

The police had said that Barclay fell onto the roadway and was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A post-mortem examination revealed his cause of death as multiple injuries.
