Over 180,000 doses of COVID vaccines administered

Over 180,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered and approximately 40 per cent of Region Six’s adult population has been given the first dose as the inoculation programme continues nationwide.

This disclosure was made by Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony on Thursday during his daily COVID-19 update where he spoke on the success of the programne. He noted that as the programme continues, Region Ten continues to lag behind other regions.

“In terms of regions we continue to see a lag in Region Ten. There have been a slight improvement so they are now at 10% of their population and on the other hand in Region Six for first dose, we have seen that Region Six is now at 40%,” the Minister informed during the update.

Further he noted that as it relates to the total countrywide for first doses, 161,886 persons have so far been inoculated and 18,526 second doses have so far been administered. “In terms of first dose vaccination that is for people 18 years and over we are currently at 161,886 persons who would have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. That by our estimation would be about 33.3% of the adult population,” Anthony indicated.

The health minister observed that the vaccination turnout in Georgetown is still the largest even though there are sites all across the region, and declared that the authorities will be doing more vaccination outreaches during the weekend to be able to reach more persons.

“On average we are hoping to operate close to 100 sites”, Dr Anthony said.
