A man who was struck while standing in the middle of Duncan Street in the wee hours of Saturday morning is in a critical state at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Up to press time, the severely injured man remained unidentified.
A statement from the Guyana Police Force (GPF) said that the accident occurred around 4.47 am yesterday.
Police were told that the man was standing in the middle of Duncan Street when he was struck down by a white Toyota Axio.
As a result, the man was flung into the air and he landed on the road surface. The driver subsequently fled the scene.
The police said that the injured man was picked up in a semi-conscious stated by Emergency Medical Technicians and was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital.
According to the statement, the man was treated for injuries to his head, chest and genitals. He was said to be a patient in the Critical Bay.
