The Guyana Football Federation (GFF), on Friday conducted their second round of COVID-19 testing for players following the resumption of training sessions at the National Training Centre, Providence.
This was disclosed by a source close to the training squad who spoke on the condition of anonymity. According to the source, the testing of the players occurred Friday morning at the GFF facility and was conducted by seven health officials.
The source explained, “They were three from the GPHC and four from the ministry who conducted the testing of the players. All but three young national players were tested and the results are expected to be received 48 hours after which should be today at the latest. The GFF will provide the information to the players on their respective statuses.”
The GFF conducted their first testing phase on April 14th following the resumption of the training sessions on the 17th of the aforementioned month.
The source further said, “It has been exactly one month since the federation conducted their first testing phase. Initially the federation had stated that they wanted to conduct testing once a week.”
Presently, the Golden Jaguars local training squad reads: Goalkeepers – Sese Norville, Shawn Adonis, and Ronaldo Blair; Defenders – Rafael Edwards, Jeremy Garrett, Eric Moore, Shemar Fraser, Quincy Adams, Kevin Dundas, Nicolai Andrews, Lionel Holder, and Trevon Lythcoth; Midfielders – Daniel Wilson, Marcus Wilson, Threvon Pluck, Kelsey Benjamin, Delwin Fraser, Pernel Schultz, Ryan Hackett, Trayon Bobb, Omari Glasgow, Dorwin George, Nicholas MacArthur, Darron Niles, and Job Caesar; and Forwards – Sheldon Holden, Osafo Simpson and Leo Lovell.
Guyana is scheduled to resume their World Cup qualifying campaign on June 4 when they travel to St. Kitts and Nevis. They are scheduled to end their group campaign four days later against Puerto Rico. The Golden Jaguars ended the first round of the qualifiers with a record of one win and a defeat, following an opening 3-0 loss to Caribbean heavyweight Trinidad and Tobago on March 25, and a 4-0 victory against lowly The Bahamas. Both matches were held in the Dominican Republic.
Presently, the Guyanese sit in third place on three points, trailing St. Kitts and Nevis and Trinidad and Tobago who possess six and four points respectively. Only the group winner will progress to the second stage of the qualifiers.
