A 20-year-old motorcyclist died and another is currently hospitalized after they were involved in an accident on Mandela Avenue, Georgetown on Sunday afternoon.
Dead is Calvin Peters of East Ruimveldt Squatting Area, Georgetown. The injured man has been identified as Shemar Pratt.
Police yesterday confirmed that an investigation is ongoing into the accident which occurred around 5pm.
According to the police, enquiries disclosed that at the time of the accident, Peters was heading south along the eastern side of Mandela Avenue. While in the vicinity of the Multilateral School, the police said that Peters stopped his motorcycle in the centre of the lane and in the path of Pratt, who was proceeding in the said direction.
Pratt subsequently collided with the rear of Peters’ motorcycle. As a result of the collision, both men fell on to the road and sustained injuries about their bodies.
They were picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) where Peters was pronounced dead on arrival.
Pratt was treated for head injuries and lacerations about the body and admitted. His condition is listed as stable. The police said checks were made at the scene for the motorcycles but they were not found. Further investigations are ongoing.
