Dear Editor,
Please permit me the space in your newspaper to air the serious plight of the pensioners are having in getting treatment and medication at the Uitvlugt Estate Care Centre. There is a serious shortage of medication e.g. Metformin, Atenolol, B-Complex, Aspirin etc. When asked about these shortages, the medex told me to go and ask the president and the minister of health. I went further and asked the personnel manager of the estate the same question who responded saying the matter will be looked into immediately. For two months there has been no improvement. To compound the misery we are faced with, blood tests are not taken due to unavailability of testing strips (for diabetes). This is also true for the urine tests. Pensioners have to pay expenses to travel to and from the Centre and then have to purchase their own medications regularly. I trust that this missive catches the eye of those in authority. This experience has to be more humane.
Sincerely,
Seenanan Sooknanan
Pensioner
