Cornelia Ida Cricket Club (CICC) showed no sign of rust in registering a 28-run win over Meten-Meer-Zorg on Sunday.
Playing at Meten-Meer-Zorg, the West Demerara unit won the toss and decided to take first strike, posting 128 for seven from their allotted 20 overs.
They then restricted Meten-Meer-Zorg to 100 for nine.
Cornelia Ida lost Adijtya Persaud with just eight runs on the board but recovered well with Akshaya Persaud and Richie Looknauth adding 49 for the second wicket.
The left-handed Persaud had a slow start to his innings with just 10 runs from the first 19 deliveries he faced but shifted gear and went on to hit five sixes and a four in 48 from 31 balls before he was caught at long on off of off-spinner, Randy Lindore.
Looknauth was the only other batsman to reach double figures, scoring 17 from 25 balls before he was trapped leg before wicket by Mahendra Dassrat who ended with 3-21 from his four overs. Extras accounted for 31 runs.
In the chase, Akshaya Persaud returned with his left-arm spin to lead his side’s defence with figures of 2-11.
He was supported by Muhammed Wazidali (2-15), Arshad Azim (2-19) and Harrinarine Bissondyal (2-25). The hosts kept up to the asking rate for most of the contest as Leroy Miggins stroked three fours and a six while top scoring with 28. Dexter George and R. Dassrat chipped in with 17 and 16 respectively but no other batsman got going.
