Mayor of Rose Hall Town, Dave Budhu, utilized an audience with Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., to make a request to have facilities in the township developed.

The Mayor at the time was speaking during the 31 Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club awards ceremony at the St. Francis Community Developers on Sunday where Ramson Jnr., was sworn in as the sixth patron.

“On behalf of the township when I see the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, I am happy to know that you are gracing this occasion. However these awardees have been working hard, some have gained places in the West Indies team. Why I am saying this Mr. Minister is that the municipality ground needs upgrading,” the Mayor said.

He added, “I have noticed on the media that you have visited a number of grounds across Region Five and offered tangible help. The area I would like you to look at as for our grounds are as follows, if you can assist the Rose Hall Municipality by filling up the ground and there is a basketball court whereby I am lobbying on behalf of the basketball players who normally be there every time I visit the ground for a pair of backboards, that is fiberglass if that is possible.”

Ramson Jnr., who spoke after the Mayor, indicated that three grounds have already been identified for a $10 million each upgrade that will change their orientation. Those three grounds are Rose Hall Estate Community Center Ground, Port Mourant and the Line Path Community Center Ground. According to the minister, the facilities will have lights installed and will see some “converted into spaces where you are sharing sports with leisure parks.

“So, just to correct what you said maybe inadvertently Mr. Mayor, is that we’ve actually been to Region Six about four times already and I have already committed $30 million to this region already and that is out of this budget that we’re putting here. In the previous budget we also committed money to various locations and some of that is in the public,” Ramson Jnr., stated.

He continued, “Be very clear that when I’m giving money to grounds and community grounds in particular, don’t ever believe that it’s being done in isolation. The President has an eye on it. The Vice President has an eye on it, cabinet has an eye on it, because this is a government project.  Our government being led by President [Dr. Mohamed Irfaan] Ali is a very coordinated approach regularly. Not only are we having our cabinet sessions weekly we have more cabinet subcommittee sessions, but a lot of the major things that are happening on behalf of the government, it’s not done in isolation.”
