Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony yesterday announced that a COVID-19 vaccination drive-thru is expected to be held tomorrow, May 22nd at the national stadium in an attempt to reach more persons.
This was stated during the Minister’s daily COVID-19 update where he noted that the ministry is trying to make vaccines more accessible to the population. “We had a discussion in the ministry and we thought that this is one way that we can make it more accessible, more convenient for people to come and get their vaccines,” he opined.
This drive-thru will be conducted at the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, East Bank Demerara where persons can drive into the compound and receive their jabs. Describing what the process would be like, Anthony stated that upon arrival into the compound, workers there will approach the vehicle to ascertain how many occupants are there to be inoculated.
“They would do the paperwork for the vaccination and then you proceed to the next station. At that station, that paperwork is verified and then they will do the actual jab”, he said while adding that the third stage of the process there would see those persons driving to another station to wait for 15 minutes to be monitored.
Dr Anthony noted during the update that he is positive that more persons would come out to receive their shots as it is a very convenient arrangement. He added that if four persons are in one vehicle, those four shots could be administered very quickly.
To be able to carry out such an operation, Anthony disclosed that the ministry will be enlisting the help of volunteers. “We will have a number of volunteers, we’re expecting to get about 40 people volunteering to assist us with the write up and so forth,” he said.
Calling the planned process innovative and novel he reiterated that they should be able to get a lot of persons inoculated.
The drive-thru facility is expected to run from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.
