Education Minister Priya Manickchand today said that public schools will remain closed for the remainder of May, June, July and August.
In a video posted on the Ministry of Education’s Facebook page, Manickchand said that if persons are responsible enough to get vaccinated, “we expect therefore to reopen schools in September of 2021 to every grade level”.
Manickchand also said that the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) has said that it is re-examining the decision for the dates for its assessments this year as many options are now being considered that could possibly change that timeline. This could affect the dates set for the NGSA exams, the Minister said. However, she assured that the ministry will fight very hard to ensure that the exams are delivered in a way that is in the best interest of the children. She is encouraging students, teachers and parents to prepare as though the exams are going to happen on the dates set.
