Police on Wednesday arrested six persons in Albouystown, Georgetown for possession of marijuana and a gun.
According to a police report, ranks were conducting a raid at about 1.40 pm at Hunter and James streets, Albouystown, when they saw six males sitting on a bench in a fenced yard located at the junction of the streets.
The males, said to be ages 16 to 23 years, all scattered in different directions when they saw the police. They were later arrested.
Upon checking nearby where the suspects were sitting, a black bulky plastic bag was discovered which contained the canna-bis along with a .380 pistol with magazine and the serial number filed off. The suspects when questioned about the weapon stated that they were not holders of a firearm licence and were taken to the Ruim-veldt Police Station where the cannabis was weighed. It amounted to 570 grams.
The gun was processed for fingerprints but none was found. The weapon and the narcotics were marked and sealed.
Investigations are ongoing.
