As many as eight houses located at Zorg-en-Hoop, Blairmont, West Bank Berbice, were damaged by the heavy winds during a freak storm on Thursday afternoon.
No major injuries were recorded as the occupants managed to quickly get out of their homes once they realised that the integrity of the buildings was being threatened.
Stabroek News was told that in one instance a three-year-old girl was in a hammock in the veranda of her home when sections of the roof collapsed. However, relatives reported that she escaped with minor injuries to her foot.
