A practice session for the West Indies cricketers yesterday in St Lucia was cancelled and no explanation was given.
According to veteran cricket commentator Joseph `Reds’ Perreira, the West Indies team was scheduled to have a practice session at 2pm yesterday at the Darren Sammy ground but the session was called off.
“The first sign that something was wrong within the West Indies party was when they cancelled the practice session at the Darren Sammy ground at 2pm yesterday,” said Perreira.
“It appears, according to a ground staff member, that they had come to the ground earlier that morning and had worked out and were due to come back for 2pm practice and although an advance party did come to check the conditions of the nets etcetera, according to a member of the ground staff they never came back and they were not told why the actual session was in fact cancelled,” he added.
According to Perreira, there were reports of a positive COVID-19 test yesterday morning but he is not sure who was the person that tested positive.
“The news of the positive COVID test broke this morning in St Lucia and at this stage it is difficult to know if it’s a player or if it’s a management staff,” said Perreira.
The curfew for the West Indies players ended on Thursday afternoon and players were free to move around.
Some of the players were also administered COVID-19 vaccines on Friday media outlets reported.
