Kevlon Anderson secured his first contract with the Guyana Jaguars on Thursday, a step in his career which he feels is one of the most significant so far.
The former West Indies Under-19 batsman is regarded by many cricket pundits to be one of the leading young talents around the region, having dominated from his club days at Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club all the way to South Africa for last year’s International Cricket Council’s U19 World Cup.
“This means a lot to me. It’s a big step forward in my career and I just want to give the Almighty thanks with his grace and know that all things are possible,” Anderson told Stabroek Sport.
Anderson, who scored two centuries in his last two first-division matches playing for the Police Sports Club said that it is a privilege to be part of a team that had won the Regional first-class season five times in the last six seasons and will do his best to make his mark when the chance arises.
“I just want to continue staying fit and ready for whenever the opportunity comes to showcase my talent,” he said.
Anderson was among 13 players retained by the Guyana-based franchise. With him are the likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Romario Shepherd and Keemo Paul, all of whom lost their West Indies International retainer contracts. Also in the mix are Chandrapaul Hemraj, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Leon Johnson, Veerasammy Permaul, Gudakesh Motie, Christopher Barnwell, Nial Smith, Kevin Sinclair and Vishaul Singh.
With only two slots left to be filed, notably missing from the list of protected players that featured last season are Raymon Reifer, who is now with Barbados Pride, Ramaal Lewis, Tevin Imlach, Akshaya Persaud and Anthony Bramble.
The teams will finalize their full squad tomorrow when the Professional Cricket League Draft takes place via video call.
