A security guard died after she was struck by a motor car along the Number 77 Village, Corentyne road in a hit and run on Wednesday evening.
Dead is Norma Rose, 41, attached to the Guyana Revenue Authority located in Springlands, and of Scottsburg Village, Upper Corentyne.
The Guyana Police Force in a statement yesterday, said, that the accident happened just around 9. 30 pm on Wednesday.
Based on information gathered, motorcar, HC 3098 was proceeding south along the eastern side of the Number 77 Public Road, Corentyne, at a fast rate when the front left side of the car collided with the pedestrian who was standing on the eastern side of the road.
As a result of the collision, the pedestrian was pitched onto the parapet.
According to the police yesterday, the driver immediately fled the scene while public-spirited persons picked up the pedestrian who was unconscious and rushed her to the Skeldon Public Hospital where she was examined by a doctor who pronounced her dead on arrival.
Her body is presently lying at the Skeldon Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a Post- Mortem Examination.
The police were able to locate the alleged driver, Danny Nanku, 32, of Port Mourant, Corentyne, on the Number 79 Public Road and arrested him.
“A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and same read 129 micrograms and 116 micrograms of alcohol in his breath respectively”, the police’s statement said yesterday.
