Four more dead with COVID, 70 new cases recorded

The Ministry of Health on Friday announced four new COVID-19 deaths and 70 new cases from the latest test results.

With the latest deaths, the country’s death toll as a result of the novel coronavirus increased to 380. Two of the fatalities, which died on May 25th were identified as a 39-year-old man from Region Four and a 74-year-old woman from Region Three. The other two fatalities were recorded on Thursday and those individuals were identified as a 31-year-old woman from Region Four and a 68-year-old man from Region Ten.

As a result, the country has reported a total of 81 deaths so far for the month of May.

Meanwhile, the 70 new cases that were recorded increased Guyana’s total number of confirmed cases to 16,724. These came after some 1,248 more persons were tested.

The new cases were reported in eight of the country’s ten administrative regions; Region One and Five (2 cases each), Region Two (6 cases), Region Three (7 cases), Region Four (29 cases), Region Six (7 cases), Region Nine (5 cases) and Region Ten with 12 cases.

There are now 1,944 active cases, 103 of which are in institutional isolation while some 1,841 are in home isolation. Some 24 persons remain patients at the country’s COVID-19 ICU even as some 153 more persons have recovered. Guyana’s total recovered cases now stand at 14,376.
