(Trinidad Guardian) The Ministry of Health reported 12 deaths due to COVID-19 and 381 new positive cases between May 21 and May 28. There were 12 new deaths. The total number of deaths is 470.  The total positive cases from March 2020 to the present is 23, 001. There are 9,250 active positive cases. There are 178 patients in step-down facilities. The total number of patients in hospital is 444. 13,281 patients are fully recovered. There are 137 patients in state quarantine facilities.

The total number of people vaccinated with one dose is 90,865. The total number of people fully vaccinated with the second dose is 1,179.

Meanwhile, the technical director of the epidemiology division Dr Avery Hinds produced a chart at yesterday’s COVID media briefing that detailed the major prohibitions and their relative spikes in COVID-19 numbers.

According to Hinds, the trend showed that congregations that coincided with pre-shutdown activities led to a spike.

Hinds noted that the April 14 closure of beaches and in-house dining coincided with a spike two weeks later. The same, he said, happened with the April 22 shutdown of entertainment and gatherings and the May 3 closure of roadside vending.

“So if there was additional clustering of people trying to get last-minute things, that may, in fact, be one of the reasons we are seeing spikes around that particular time,” he said.
