Team Guyana snatched three medals on Day One of the Senior South American Championships yesterday in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
Sprinters Emanuel Archibald, Jasmine Abrams and Jenea McCammon were the athletes on the podium draped in the Golden Arrowhead.
Archibald earned a silver medal in the blue riband 100m men’s event clocking 10.23s to finish behind Brazil’s Felipe Bardi (10.10s).
Abrams sprinted to a bronze medal in the women’s 100m final clocking 11.50s. Brazil’s Cristina Silva (11.31s) and Ecuador’s Marizol Landazuri (11.39s) led her onto the podium.
McCammon also copped bronze in the 100m hurdles in 13.63s. Ketiley Batista (12.96s) of Brazil and Diana Bazalar (13.47s) of Peru finished second and third in the event.
Archibald returned to the long jump pit and placed seventh while his countryman, Micaiah Washington ended ninth in the same event of 13 competitors.
200m and 800m athletes, Akeem Stewart, Arinze Chance, Devaun Barrington and Andrea Foster will spring into action today on Day Two of the 52nd edition and of the three-day event.
