Top female player Priyanna Ramdhani and Akili Haynes will represent Guyana at the 2021 Pan American Games in Colombia in November.
This is according to a release from the Guyana Badminton Association yesterday which detailed that Guyana qualified for event booked for Cali.
According to the GBA, the qualification is as a result of the world rankings of Ramdhani siblings, Priyanna and Narayan.
“However, as Narayan will be over the required Under-23 age limit, Guyana’s second top male player Akili Haynes will take the male spot,” the release stated.
Haynes, who was a bronze medalist at the Carebaco Juniors 2018 and also attended the World Juniors in Canada 2018 has become one of the fastest developing players in the country. He is ranked 928th in the world.
Ramdhani who is currently attending Olds College in Canada on a badminton scholarship, played at the Pan American individual championships in Guatemala back in May to help secure the spots. She is ranked 386 in the singles category.
“The GBA is pleased with the outcome of the qualification results once again and will be meeting with the GOA [Guyana Olympic Association] and Minister of Sports to finalize funding for their training leading up to the games,” the release stated.
