A Brazilian miner was found dead floating face down on Tuesday in the Mazaruni River in the vicinity of Surinamo Landing.
The dead man, Allesandro Foss, 37, died sometime between Saturday and Tuesday.
Police enquiries revealed that the victim was given the task of overlooking a dragger located in middle of the Mazaruni River in the vicinity of Pappyshow Landing.
On Tuesday at about 11.00 hours, information received stated that the victim had not been seen for approximately three days and his boat was discovered drifting in the river.
As a result, a party of policemen began making enquiries and eventually found the victim floating face down in the Mazaruni River.
The deceased’s body was examined for marks of violence but none was found.
The body was transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital and is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
