Five more persons have been confirmed to have died due to COVID-19, pushing the fatality figure to 396.
A 65-year-old woman from Region 10 who died on May 3 succumbed to the virus. A 90-year-old female who passed away on May 21 was also a victim of the virus. Three others who died on May 31st also succumbed to the virus. These were a 65-year-old man from Region Six, a 54-year-old female from Region 7 and a 68-year-old man from the same region.
This increased the total number of deaths for May to 97.
Meanwhile, some 143 new cases were recorded yesterday pushing Guyana’s total confirmed cases to 17,257. These came after some 952 persons were tested thus increasing the total number of tests done to 156,180.
There are now 1,815 active cases, 97 of whom are in institutional isolation while another 1,718 are in home isolation. According to the regional breakdown of cases, the majority of the cases came from Regions Four, Nine and Ten with 50, 28 and 19 cases respectively.
Some 19 persons remain patients in the country’s COVID-19 ICU even as 148 more persons have recovered thus increasing Guyana’s total recovered cases to 15,027.
