Three new COVID-19 deaths were reported on Friday, taking Guyana’s death toll to 403.
The Ministry of Health made the announcement through a press release which stated that the two deaths were confirmed from May, while the other was recorded on Wednesday.
According to the release, a 36-year-old woman from Region Four died on May 26, while a 71-year old woman died on May 27. The third fatality was identified as a 75-year-old woman from Region Three, who died on June 2.
Meanwhile, some 83 new cases were reported by the ministry yesterday, thus increasing the total number of confirmed cases to date to 17,459. These came after some 1,512 additional persons were tested.
According to the COVID-19 dashboard’s Regional Distribution of COVID-19 cases, new cases were reported in seven of the ten administrative regions. Region One (8 new cases), Regions Three and Six (7 cases), Region Four (40 cases), Region Five (2 cases), Region Nine (15 cases) and Region Ten (4 new cases).
It also stated that there were 1,877 active cases, 105 of which are in institutional isolation, while another 1,772 were in home isolation. Some 17 persons remain patients at the COVID-19 Intensive Care Unit, while 89 additional persons have recovered from the virus, thus increasing the total number of recovered cases to 15,162.
