The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has taken a decision to suspend its inaugural Under-19 franchise tournament.
This is according to a release on Thursday evening which cited the heavy rainfall, currently affecting the Coast as the main reason for the postponement.
“The postponement is due to the current inclement weather, which is expected to severely affect the players opportunity to showcase their talents,” the release stated.
“The GCB remains committed to completing the tournament as soon as the weather conditions consistently become more suitable for play.”
With all matches booked for the National Stadium, Providence, last weekend’s opening round saw just 12 overs being bowled before that match was abandoned due to rain.
That match was to have been replayed yesterday.
In round two, Eagles scored a one-wicket win over Amazon Hawks.
The inaugural tournament is geared at giving players at this level a chance to show their worth and capture the attention of the relevant authorities in order to gain a spot in the provisional West Indies Under-19 World Cup squad. As such, all matches are streamed live with commentary.
Currently, Mavindra Dindyal, Matthew Nandu, Isai Thorne and Rampertab Ramnauth are the only Guyanese in the Youth squad.
The competition is sponsored by 4R bearings, Tropical Spring, Trophy Stall and General Marines.
