West Indies fast bowler, Shannon Gabriel could be available for the second Test against South Africa later this week.

The 33-year-old fast bowler, though included in the provisional 17-man squad, was ruled out of the 13-man squad for the opening Test which  West Indies surrendered by an innings and 63 runs due to a hamstring injury.

Head coach, Phil Simmons said that Gabriel will be assessed in the coming days ahead of the second Test.

“Shannon has done well, he has been bowling, up to today he bowled a couple of overs and over the next couple days he is going to bowl again and see where he is when it’s time to select the final 13,” Simmons said on Saturday during an interview with the media.

In the first Test, it was the pacers on display with 27 of the 30 wickets to fall, being taken by the seamers.

Exceptional performances came from former captain, Jason Holder who picked up a four-wicket haul and newbie, Jayden Seales who bagged 3-75. South Africa’s Anrich Nortje (seven wickets), Kagiso Rabada (six wickets) and Lungi Ngidi (five wickets) also enjoyed success in St. Lucia.
