The badly decomposed body of an elderly woman was on Sunday found along a trail at Perseverance Backdam, North West District, where vultures were feeding on it.
The deceased, identified as Ruby Williams, 97, is believed to have died sometime between June 10 and 13, 2021.
The police in a statement issued yesterday, stated that the woman lived alone in a camp at Perseverance Backdam after refusing to live with family members.
The report said on June 10, around 2pm, Williams was seen alone walking on the said backdam in the direction of her camp.
However, on Sunday around 1pm a resident of the area observed a flock of vultures along the trail. Upon closer examination, he saw what appeared to be a decomposed body.
A report was subsequently made to the police.
Based on the advanced state of the decomposition, Williams’ body could not be transported and as a result a grave was dug and the body was buried for possible exhumation.
