A boat, suspected to have been used to transport narcotics on several occasions, was discovered at Mahaicony on Thursday and law enforcement officials are seeking to locate three men, who are believ-ed to be the owners/operators.

The Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), in a statement issued yesterday, said the boat was discovered on the eastern side of the Mahaicony landing.

The agency found a total of 5.610 kilos of cannabis, equivalent to just over 12 pounds, onboard.

According to CANU, the operation that saw the discovery of the boat was a continuation of a previous one which was conducted by ranks at Unity, East Coast Demerara during which the boat was allegedly seen delivering bulky bags at the foreshore.

The bags, CANU said, were intercepted and found to have contained canna-bis.

“Upon discovering the said boat, a surveillance operation was initiated to identify the owners/ operators of the said boat,” the agency noted but it said the operation proved futile.

The three individuals who are being sought, according to CANU, go by the aliases “Elvis,” “Matic” and “Jagan.”
