A Linden woman was killed on Thursday night in an accident at Hauraruni Public Road, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, after the car she was travelling in collided with a truck.
June Forde, 56, of One Mile Wismar, Linden, was travelling in PTT 7073, driven by Michael Forde, also of the same Wismar address, when the accident occurred.
The Guyana Police Force said in a statement that the truck, GZZ 2701, was proceeding north along the western side of the road, while Michael was proceeding in the opposite direction.
However, as the vehicles were about to pass each other, the police noted, the car reportedly ended up in the western lane, causing it to collide with the truck.
After the collision, June was removed from the car in an unconscious condition. Both she and Michael were transported to the Diamond Diagnostic Hospital.
June was pronounced dead on arrival while Michael was subsequently transferred to the George-town Public Hospital (GPH), where he was admitted as a patient suffering from what was described as a penetrating injury to his right eye.
The driver of the truck was subjected to a breath-alyser test but no trace of alcohol was found in his system.
He remained in custody up to yesterday.
Meanwhile, a relative of the deceased, in a post on Facebook, indicated that June Forde had come to lay her mother to rest. “God you needed another one you take my auntie now my cousin she left to go put things in order to lay her mom to rest and she’s gone from us now five days apart,” the relative wrote.
