A 20-year-old secretary was arrested on Thursday after she was allegedly found in possession of a quantity of cannabis in a shopping bag.
The suspect has been identified as Aatwanna Natoya McCammon, a resident of ‘C’ Field, Sophia.
According to the Customs Anti-Narcotic Unit (CANU), ranks acting on information received stopped a minibus, BWW 1587, along the Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public Road.
McCammon was seen with a shopping bag in her possession. It contained a transparent parcel.
A search of the parcel revealed 1.174 kg of cannabis, CANU said.
At the time, McCammon was a passenger seated in the front passenger seat of the minibus, which was en route to Georgetown from Berbice.
“The suspect was told of the offence committed, arrested, cautioned and escorted to CANU Head-quarters,” CANU said.
The minibus and the other passenger were also taken into custody for questioning as part of the investigation.
