Olympic Games bound boxer, Keevin Allicock, is scheduled to depart for Russia on June 30 for a three-week, high-level training camp ahead of the Games scheduled from July 23 to August 8 in Tokyo, Japan.
This was confirmed yesterday by president of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA), Steve Ninvalle.
Ninvalle also disclosed that the 22-year-old standout bantamweight, will be accompanied on the sojourn and to the games by his lifelong Coach, Sebert Blake.
Said Ninvalle about AIBA’s Three Star Coach Blake, who is employed at the Guyana Power and Light (GPL).
“We will be writing the GPL for his (Blake) release so that he can accompany Keevin. Blake has been in Keevin’s corner throughout his career, so it is only appropriate that he accompanies him to the training camp and the games.”
Meanwhile, Ninvalle disclosed Trinidad’s Olympic boxer, middleweight, Aaron Prince is scheduled to arrive this evening along with his coach and first Vice President of the Trinidad Boxing Association, Mr. Reynold Cox for a one-week stint.
“They will arrive for a one-week stay in Guyana where they will be preparing for the Olympics,” said Ninvalle who added, “We are happy that they have chosen Guyana, there are other places in the Caribbean that they could have chosen but it goes to show the close alliance that we have.”
Prince and Cox are scheduled to depart Guyana on July 1.
