Top ranked all-rounder Jason Holder has become just the third West Indian to complete the triple of 2000 runs, 100 wickets and 50 catches.
Holder reached this landmark in the second Test against South Africa in the Caribbean where he pulled off four takes in the slips including a stunning outstretched catch diving to his right to dismiss Keshav Maharaj and reach the milestone of 50 catches.
Speaking of the catch that put him in the elite club, Holder said, “It was just one of those catches I let my instincts take over.”
Having established himself as an impenetrable fielder in the slip cordon, the 6’ 7” Bajan said, “I think the biggest thing at slip is just to pick up the ball and I picked it up quite early and just try to give myself a good chance of catching it. Jayden [Seales] was in a good spell, we needed every wicket we could get and keep the runs down, it was just important to give the effort, it reminded me of the catch I took in New Zealand but I think I rate this one a little higher.”
In 49 Tests, the former West Indies captain has scored 2287 runs at an average of 31.76 with a best of 202 not out. With the ball, the right arm fast bowler has returned 129 wickets at an average of 27.27 to go with his eight five-wicket hauls and one 10-wicket haul.
The 29-year-old joins the likes of Gary Sobers who has scored 8032 runs to go with his 235 wickets and 109 catches while Guyanese, Carl Hooper is the other West Indian to achieve this feat with 5762 runs, 114 wickets and 115 catches. (RS)
