A Werk-en-Rust man who was remanded after police at the Security Command Centre allegedly observed him in the act of removing items from a car parked on Albert Street, Georgetown, has been granted bail.
Seon Douglas, 40, of Lot 46 Palm Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court via Zoom from the Lusignan Prison yesterday. Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan later placed him on $100,000 bail.
It is alleged that on May 29, at Albert Street, Georgetown, he stole $75,000 cash, property of Lauren Dundas. Douglas was yesterday represented by attorney-at-law, Patrice Henry, who in a successful bail application, told the court that Douglas has no passport that can be used and insisted that his client will attend court if granted reasonable bail.
At his first appearance, he pleaded not guilty to the charge, however, he was not granted bail after the police prosecutor informed the court that the man had pending matters at the court and there was sufficient evidence to convict him of the charge. The prosecutor also objected to bail based on the grounds that the charge is serious in nature. While the prosecutor maintained his previous objections, the father of four was granted bail with the condition that he reports to the Alberttown Police Station every Friday at 9 am. The matter will be called again on June 30. According to the facts presented to the court, on the day in question, Dundas secured her purse which had the money in it and left it in her boyfriend’s vehicle, which was parked between Thomas Lands and Woolford Avenue, outside the Track Sports Bar.
Police officers at the Security Command Centre made a call to the Brickdam Operations room and reported that they observed Douglas entering the car – PPP 7305 – and removing something from the vehicle. A patrol was then directed to the area and was able to arrest Douglas. They requested to search his person and upon doing so, they found an improvised Toyota Allion key.
The owner of the vehicle was contacted and upon checking the car, it was discovered that the money was missing. The matter was reported to the Brickdam Police Station.
