One new COVID-19 death was confirmed on Friday along with 109 new cases of the virus.
The latest fatality was confirmed by the Ministry of Health, which stated in a press release that the Guyana’s deaths as a result of the virus has increased to 459.
The latest fatality was identified as a 59-year-old man from Region Four, who died while receiving care at a state medical institution.
Meanwhile, the 109 new cases confirmed via the ministry’s COVID-19 dashboard, have increased the total number of cases recorded thus far in the country to 19,674. The new infections were confirmed from 982 tests that were done.
According to the regional distribution of COVID-19 cases, five new cases were recorded in regions One, Three and Ten, one in Region Two, 33 in Region Four, three in Region Five, 21 in Region Six, two in Region Seven and 34 in Region Nine.
There are now 1,572 active cases, 99 of which are in institutional isolation, while the remainder are in home isolation. Some 17 persons are patients at the COVID-19 intensive Care Unit.
